After arrival at Bangkok Airport, our guide will meet you in the arrival hall and take you to the Eastin Makkasan Hotel, a nice hotel in a good location. You have time to relax or discover the area near the hotel. Day 2 Discover Bangkok on your own, visit the Royal Palace, take a boat trip through the canals, visit Chinatown or one of the many luxurious malls. At the end of the day, you take the night train to Chiang Mai.
Arrival in Chiang Mai and transfer to your hotel. Explore the city at leisure, visit the temples of this beautiful city, go for a zipline tour, visit the umbrella village Bor Sang or the woodcarvers’ town of Ban Tawai. Take a Thai cooking course or go to the Doi Suthep mountain temple, enough to do and see in Chiang Mai, don’t forget to visit the famous night market.
We drive to the Doi Inthanon National Park and go all the way to the top of the hill (2565 meters) where there is a radar station (no photos!) and take a walk through a moss forest, special because of the altitude. 5 kilometers below the top we stop at 2 beautiful pagodas that were built on the occasion of the 60th birthday of the king and queen respectively. In the afternoon a visit to a Karen hill tribe village and a waterfall.
In the countryside, just outside of Chiang Mai city, you will go on a relaxed ride. You will visit local villages with houses on stilts and rice fields along lazy back roads and stop at a village school. There is a stop at a lake with beautiful mountains surrounding it. The best way to experience this part of Northern Thailand.
The part of the tour starts with a drive to the north of Chiang Mai to visit the Chiang Dao Caves. From here we drive to Tha Ton toward the provincial border between Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai where we will see a big Buddha statue on top of a mountain. Next, we take a longtail boat to travel the Kok river for about 3 hours towards Chiang Rai, where we spend the night.
We continue to Doi Mae Salong, an almost complete Chinese village in the mountains north of Chiang Rai. We visit the local market and we taste the famous Oolong tea. Next stop, Doi Tung to visit the Royal Project. The grandmother of the present king established a project for the hill tribe people who used to grow opium. They were stimulated to grow vegetables and flowers and you can see the beautiful Mae Fah Luang flower garden as a result. We will spend the night in the most northern province of Thailand.
We drive to the Burmese border at Mae Sai, at the Burmese border. There is a very interesting market over here with many products from Burma and China. You can cross the border to catch a glimpse of Burmese life. Then to the infamous Golden Triangle on the Mekong river. From the viewpoint, you can see how Thailand, Laos, and Burma converge here. Via the old city of Chiang Saen with its ruins and a stop at hot springs, we return to Chiang Mai.
After breakfast, this tour ends. We can make arrangements for transfer to Bangkok Airport for your connecting international flight or you can extend your holiday either at a beach or in the North, depending on your choice, check it out here.
