Most tours will start in Bangkok but this tour will start in Chiang Mai which is very relaxed. You will visit the capital of Thailand later on this tour. In Chiang Mai, you will stay outside of the old city, at a family resort consisting of teak bungalows on stilts in traditional Thai style. In the countryside, you will go on a bicycle tour on day 2 and visit local villages with houses on stilts and rice fields along lazy back roads and stop at a village school. Day 3 you have time to roam the environment of Chiang Mai, take a massage, do a cooking course, visit an elephant sanctuary or relax at the pool.
We drive to Mae Wang, south of Chiang Mai and from here you go on a trek through the mountains to visit hill tribe villages. You walk through dense forest, open areas, plantations owned by mountain people, and sometimes along or through rivers. In the early afternoon, we walk down the hills for a bamboo rafting trip along a beautiful river. After that, we go back to Chiang Mai where we spent the night.
In the morning you will visit the famous temple of Chiang Mai, Doi Suthep. This temple is situated on top of a hill and from here you have a fantastic view of the surrounding valley of Chiang Mai. Then onward to Chiang Rai. The journey takes around 3 hours through a fantastic mountain landscape. We stay overnight at Homestay Chiang Rai.
Your guide will pick you up from the hotel and you will travel to Mae Sai, at the Burmese border. There is a very interesting market over here with many products from Burma and China. You can cross the border to catch a glimpse of the Burmese life. Then to the infamous Golden Triangle on the Mekong river. From the viewpoint, you can see how Thailand, Laos, and Burma converge here. Via the old city of Chiang Saen with its ruins back to Chiang Rai.
The day starts with a flight to Bangkok in the morning. From the airport to the Eastin Makkasan Hotel, a nice hotel in a good location. You have time to relax or discover the area near the hotel. Day 8 you go on City Tour through Bangkok; Chinatown, the Flower Market, see the Skyscrapers and travel the Chao Praya river and connecting ‘klongs’ (canals). Day 9 you have time to roam the city all by yourself, take a tuk-tuk ride, visit temples and the palace, or some of the big shopping centers. Or go on a bicycle ride through the less known areas, it is all up to you. You can also just relax at the pool.
Your tour ends on the morning of the 10th day. You can extend your holiday either at a beach or in the North, depending on your choice, check it out here.
